Is Your Website Mobile Responsive Yet?

What does ‘responsive’ mean?

Responsive design automatically adjusts website content based on screen size or device, so that users can easily navigate content, click buttons and find the information they are looking for.

Responsive websites work the same across all devices, from a PC/Mac to a laptop to an iPad to an iPhone.

In short, it offers the best possible user experience, from a 4-inch phone screen to a huge desktop monitor.

With more and more traffic coming from mobile devices, Web sites need to accommodate them.
That is the goal behind responsive Web site design.

“My Web site is not ‘responsive’ but it still shows up on my mobile phone. That’s good enough, right?”

Not quite. Just because the information is there does not mean that it is easy to find. Without a quality experience, mobile users are less likely to visit more than one page of your website, less likely to purchase a product from your website, and less likely to return again in the future.
For instance, do users need to zoom in to see your content? If so, Google will lower your rankings. What about your clickable links? Are they too close together to tell which links your thumb will hit? You will get marked down for that, too.
These are just two of the factors that Google will consider.

Even though your Web site may show up on a smartphone, if it is not user-friendly, it could hurt your ranking.

Google has a great tool to see if your website is mobile friendly:

Type in your web address and this tool will give you a report on the mobile friendly state of your website.
